How to use CandlePower with ALL InvestorLink Data DATABOSS SETUP
Initial Setup 1. Click on Setup, then User. Enter your InvestorLink username and password, then click Save. Remember that your user information is case sensitive. 2. Click on Setup, then Data. Clicking on the Updating tab. Check the boxes next to the data type(s) you wish to maintain data for. 3. Enter root updating paths in each section where you have a data type checked. The root updating path is the directory beneath which DataBoss will store your data. For example, you could enter c:\msodata\stocks for your stock data and c:\msodata\futures for your commodities data. 4. Now click on the Downloading tab. Toward the bottom of the screen, check the boxes next to the types of data you will be following. 5. Click on Save. 6. Click on Setup, then Options. Click on the Automation tab. 7. Check the Automatically update after download box, then click Save.
Copying Data from the InvestorLink CD 1. Put your InvestorLink data CD in your CD device. 2. Click on Utilities, then CD Extract, then either Stocks or Funds. 3. In Step 1, be sure the destination drive letter is selected. This is the drive where you want the data to ultimately reside. Following the earlier example, this would be 'C'. 4. In Step 2, enter the root destination folder, excluding the drive letter. Following the earlier example, you would enter msodata\stocks for stock data. 5. In Step 3, choose the letter of your CD drive. 6. Click the Import button. Answer to affirmations. This will extract all of the selected data type from the CD and copy to your hard drive. This process will take some time because there are a lot of files to copy. 7. When finished, close the open windows, including the CD Import dialog. Repeat steps 2 through 6 to copy the other data type (stock or fund) if you want it. To copy the commodities data, simply use the Windows Explorer to drag the futures folder on the CD onto your hard drive. Make sure when you are done that the name of the futures folder coincides with the root updating path for commodities you specified earlier.
Bring your new database up to date 1. Note the date printed on the CD case. 2. From DataBoss, click on Download/Retrieve, then Historical Daily Files. 3. Wind the date back to the date printed on your your CD. For example, if your CD date is July 23, set the date to 990723. Don't worry about weekends or holliday, they will be ignored. 4. Click one or more of the stock, commodity, and fund buttons, depending on which data types you are following. This will add the requested end of day (eod) file to the Request list. 5. Click on Done. 6. Leave DataBoss running. Connect to the internet in your usual fashion. 7. Bring DataBoss back to the forefront of the screen then click on Download/Retrieve, FTP. This will download the eod file(s) you requested then will update your historical data files. 8. When the updating is finished, exit the Databoss program then restart it. 9. Make sure you're still connected to the internet. 10. Click on Download/Retrieve, then FTP again. This will download the remainder of the eod files you need, then update your historical files with the. The updating will probably be a lenghtly process as there will be several eod files which need processing.
The Daily Routine 1. Connect to the internet. 2. Start DataBoss. 3. Click on Download/Retrieve, then FTP. This will download any eod files posted since your last session and update your historical database. Downloading the data should take less than a minute, updating takes about 10 minutes for stock data and about 2 minutes for commodities data. CANDLEPOWER SETUP Data Path Setup You must specify to CandlePower where your data resides. The initial setup is somewhat laborius, but needs to be done only once. 1. Start CandlePower, press the n key to display the Security Selection Screen. 2. Click the Add button. 3. Click No to add a data path. 4. Type in one of your data paths, such as c:\msodata\stocks\a if you used the example directory in the DataBoss setup section above. Click on Okay. 5. Click on Yes to add the path to the CandlePower data path list. 6. You should now see the path you entered in Setp 4 on the path list. You may double click on the path to view the securities in the directory (they will be displayed in the security list in the box to the left). 7. Repeat Steps 2 - 6 to add each data directory, A through Z and index. When you are done, you will have 27 entries (one for each letter plus 'index').
List Setup In order to use CandlePower for scanning all of the data, you must create a data list containing all of the security files. 1. From the Security Selection screen, double click on the path pointing to your 'a' directory so that your 'a' tickers are displayed. 2. Click on Add. Click on Yes to create a list. 3. Type in the name you want to call the list, such as All Stocks, then click Okay. You should now see the List Editor screen, with the 'a' tickers displayed. 4. Click Add All, then Yes. 5. Click on 'Save List and Exit.' Click Yes to save the list alphabetically. 6. Double click on the next data directory (the 'b' directory). This displays the 'b' tickers. 7. Click on your list entry (All Stocks, if you used the above example). 8. Click on Edit. Click No because you don't want to change the name. You are back at the List Editor now. 9. click Add All, then Yes. 10. Click on 'Save List and Exit.' Click Yes to save the list alphabetically. 11. Repeat Steps 6 through 10, moving to the next data directory each time. You'll need to do this 27 times - once for each letter and once for 'index.' That's it. You should now have 28 entries on your Data Path/List screen. 26 for the alphabetically entries, one for 'index,' and your list which contains every security and index. When screening, you may select your list to scan every security.
